STYLING

PHILOSOPHY

Pia A. de Soiza

Founder

Great style is attainable for everyone. Working with a personal stylist is possibly something you never thought about doing. But as we move through our lives and enter different chapters, evolution is inevitable. Part of that evolution is in how you are presenting yourself to the world. My mission is to provide you the tools and foundations to build an enhanced representation of who you are.

Style is not complicated, it’s about taking what you love most about yourself or what you see inside of yourself and highlighting that to the world. I’ve always felt that fashion is powerful, it can illicit emotions deep within yourself and form influence over others, a non-verbal exchange of aesthetic values. My goal is to help you create and define your visual language wherein you own the message. Remain true to yourself, illustrate your personal brand, and unveil your best self while achieving comfort, confidence and pride.

"Wearing clothes should be a personal narrative of emotion.

I always respond to fashion in an emotional way."

- André Leon Talley

An eye for beauty, colors, shapes and textures has been a lifelong draw, but so has the act of visual storytelling.

When I graduated from college at Wesleyan University, my first fashion job was assisting acclaimed stylist Mel Ottenberg in his New York studio. Currently the creative director of Interview Magazine and renowned for shaping superstar Rihanna’s style, at that time Mel was working on cover shoots for Vogue Italia, i-D Magazine and others. I was beyond thrilled to be on set with stars like Mariah Carey and participating in styling sessions for John Galliano, who might be in town for a personal appearance. It was an incredible first-time exposure to the styling world.

Afterward, I moved to Elite Traveler Magazine, a lifestyle publication for private jet owners. As a member of the editorial team, while working on photo shoots and collaborating with high-end designers, I became familiar with the art of creative management. I then landed at JGK, Inc., a photography production company and agency representing artists like Gilles Bensimon, Michel Comte, James Houston, and Antoine Verglas. These artists are icons in the industry, creating stunning visuals for fashion and beauty. Soon after, I began reporting on fashion week in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. I interviewed designers, celebrities and stylists, my personal highlight being Patricia Field. I attended shows and exhibitions, learning about each collection and the ethos behind each brand.

Being bitten by the media and production bug, I pivoted my career. I earned a Master’s degree in Media Studies and Management from The New School, where Parsons is affiliated. For years, I took positions in marketing or advertising management for publications, brands and agencies, as either a strategist or a producer. I eventually landed at the Wall Street Journal, where I worked with global brands, managing international advertising productions and absorbing all I could around the importance of brand strategy and messaging. You can see some of that work here.

My background in defining and communicating a brand's values transfers to the approaches required for building a personal brand. Since returning to my first love of fashion styling, I've worked with clients attending the Grammy Awards, media talent, musicians shooting album art, and executives starting jobs overseas. I've trained with Carla Mathis, author of The Triumph of Individual Style and 1 of 19 Certified Image Masters (AICI) in the world.

For me, styling has always been transformative and playful. Each person can create their own visual narrative through style, and it's always a joy for me to experiment and help craft that story.
